A Precondition for Flourishing

Suffering is a precondition for human flourishing.

They hang up because they want a comfortable life. Quick solutions. They want to take the pill. Get lost in the phone or the bottle. They prefer to make excuses or play the victim. They are willing to do whatever it takes to avoid the pain.

But, here's the thing. You were created to carry a hard and heavy load.

More than just being capable of carrying a load, you're actually incomplete as a person if you’re not carrying YOUR load nobly.

Meaning cannot be found by way of eliminating burdens, bottling up emotions or running from suffering.

It can be found, however, by choosing a load that is so worth carrying that the resilience required to carry it leads you to a depth of meaning that cannot be attained without it. By standing your ground to face what is front of you with grace and strength. And by having the courage to turn toward your emotions instead of away from them.

Find your load. Face your suffering. Learn from your emotions. Live nobly regardless of the circumstances. And you have no idea the good that will emerge.
